At first, every relationship seems to go well. If it didn’t, you would abandon it immediately. However, as time goes on and you make a commitment to each other, you are forced to deal with problems. The guy who seemed so perfect when you were dating is not so perfect now that you are living together. The gal who cooked for you every night during the honeymoon period of your romance now barely serves up peanut butter and jelly.

Dealing with relationship issues is one of the hardest parts of being in a couple. When you want to run away and resume life alone, when you have had enough of someone who doesn’t understand you is just the time that you need to sit down and start dealing with relationship problems.

One of the keys to dealing with relationship hitches is to remember that it isn’t just about you. Each person has their own needs, their own expectations, and their own way of doing things. You may want things done now and your partner may want to take his time – and there isn’t always a right way. By coming to compromises, you may find that you can both get along together.

There is no Ozzie and Harriet, no Brady Bunch, and there is no perfect situation. Trying to turn your relationship into a perfect one is pointless. But, you can make it better by working together, expressing your dissatisfactions and expectations, and agreeing sometimes simply to disagree.
