One of the biggest downfalls in a relationship which could lead to a break up is constant arguing. Many couples get to a point where the only time they talk is when they fight. This is really unhealthy but luckily there are things you can do to prevent it. The way you word things could be what is sparking an argument. When you use “you” phrases like “you always do this!” or “you never do that!” it will immediately cause your partner to go into defensive mode. This can often lead to a screaming match that lasts all night long. Instead of “you” phrases, try using “I” phrases, like “I feel as though…” or “I think that…” You will still get your point across, but are not placing immediate blame on your partner.

Compromises are the key to a successful relationship. If you are unable to compromise with your partner about certain things, then your relationship is not going to be a healthy one. Practice coming to a compromise on things you disagree on.

Make a conscious effort to stop arguing. When you feel an argument coming on, simply say something like “Lets take a minute to calm down. I don’t want to argue” and you would be surprised at how well that works.
